| 2023-10-02 | Winning: The Unforgiving Race to Greatness (Tim Grover Winning Series) | Tim S. Grover | 1/5 | I finished this book in one day, not because I was hooked by the content, but because I wanted to get it over with. Overall, the book isn’t that bad; it sometimes offers great insights, although they weren’t particularly new to me. I gave the book one star because it completely contradicts my philosophy, and I believe Tim Grover is wrong on multiple fronts. As a coach myself, I think not prioritizing the journey over the destination is a mistake, as is not maintaining balance in various aspects of life. Focusing solely on results is also problematic. Throughout the book, it’s clear that Tim Grover is concerned about his reputation; he talks a lot about what others think and how they judge performance. He also makes the reader feel as though winning is extraordinary, while the primary job of a coach is to make extraordinary achievements feel normal for their players. If you’re looking for truly wise coaching books, I would recommend reading all of Coach Wooden’s works |
